New Demand Stream Event

Add new product or customer demand with no history, or adjust forecasts using internal estimates.

Definition

A New Demand Stream Event is usually initiated when there is a need to account for demand without prior historical data. In other words, it focuses on launching a new product or establishing a connection with a new group of customers.

Additionally, the Demand Stream Event serves to refine existing demand forecasts for products with historical sales records. It enables users to integrate their internal demand estimates (Sales Out) to adjust the foundational forecast.

Creating a New Demand Stream Event

By clicking "Event" on the left side panel, you get access to the SIMCEL Event Management page:

The screen gives access to the definition of the new demand stream with related impact on the selected segment

Create a New Demand Stream reflecting a New Product Introduction (NPI):

ℹ️
Note: To create an event reflecting a New Product Introduction, the user needs to update the master data beforehand including the new product and related data:

Now, let's try to create an event with an NPI on the overall business.

  • Name the new event
  • Name the version
  • Select the period

  • In the New product menu, select a Product Reference

🗒️
To create a New Demand Stream, the user needs to select a single unique product in the Select Product search box first to enable the product proxy drop-down
  • In the Product proxy drop-down type and select a Product Reference

🗒️
By doing so SIMCEL understands that the historical demand profile from the proxy product needs to be used to allocate the New product demand to lower-level segments (e.g. Channel, Province, Customer Ref...)
  • Now users need to provide the "monthly demand" for the New Demand Stream. This can be done either by typing each month’s value or by copying a row from a spreadsheet and pasting it into SIMCEL
  • Click Save to save the impact

  • Save the event after all the editing

Create a New Demand Stream reflecting a New Product Introduction with multiple customer segment impact:

ℹ️
Note: User can also create an NDS/NPI event and set specific impact per segment if the product introduction might happen differently within different customer segments:
  • Create a New Demand Stream reflecting a New Product Introduction
  • Name the event Name, version Name
  • Click on “Add” to set up a new impact
  • Set up the period
  • In the Target Customer Scope under Launch Definition select a Customer Segment
Notion image
  • Update the Monthly Demand value or keep it unchanged
Notion image
  • Click on “Save” to save the impact
  • Click on "+ Add" within this event to add one more NPI
Notion image
  • Enter the same information regarding the Product and Product Proxy as the first segment, but this time select a different Customer Segment in the customer Dropdown.
Notion image
  • Define the Monthly Demand value for this extra NPI
Notion image
  • Save the event
🗒️
By doing so, we just created an NDS event for a New Product where the demand stream was only set for 2 Specific Customer Segments.
ℹ️
Note: If the chosen segment is unavailable for the proxy product—meaning the proxy lacks data or a demand pattern for that segment—no sales data will be generated, despite the user having established a ramp-up period for this segment.
